Tuesdays, 4:30-6:00 PM Open to all experience levels. This course is geared toward students new to theater – including those who can’t wait to get on stage, those who just want to try it out, and those who want to expand their comfort zones. Students wishing to participate in future youth productions must take this course first, or demonstrate equivalent experience. Youth Acting: Intro is JTC’s beginner class for ages 8 - 13*. Students will be introduced to the basics of theater language, movement, voice, characterization, and teamwork on stage. The class will focus on unlocking theatrical imagination and equipping students with the foundational tools of the acting craft through games, exercises, and age-appropriate scene work. Emphasis will also be on helping students feel comfortable on stage, grow in confidence, and shed nervous habits in a non-threatening environment. Students will also be encouraged to participate in an end-of-semester showcase during the last class on November 14, open to friends and family. Concepts covered include: Stage Language Movement: Body Awareness & Control Voice: Delivery, Projection, & Diction Characterization & Choices Basics of Improvisation NOTE: Due to expected class size, students will be divided into sections for this course, largely by age group (8-10 and 11-13). If your student desires to be in the same section with another student (a sibling or otherwise), please include that student's name in the "Notes" section when signing up. *13-year-olds are welcome in either our Youth Acting courses or our more advanced Taking the Stage course for teens, depending on the maturity and experience of the individual student. We encourage 13-year-olds brand new to theater to take our Youth Acting: Intro to Theater course, and students with more exposure to classic texts and on stage experience to level up into our Taking the Stage course, but we are flexible based on the needs of the student. If you are not sure which class is best for your student, please contact us to determine the best student placement. Tuesdays, 4:30 - 6:00 PM Sept 12 - Nov 14
