Course Description
Wednesdays, 4:00 - 6:00 PM + Dress Rehearsals & Performances Prerequisites: Youth Acting 1, Taking the Stage, or equivalent experience. No exceptions. Please contact us if your student has not taken a class with us, but has prior theatrical experience; in that case, we will set up a virtual audition so we can see if they are ready for this class. We are very excited to offer a production class this semester, performing 'Robin Hood'! Our Youth Production Class will give our younger students a production experience at their age and skill level, and will function as a hybrid between a class and a traditional production. Students will put on a one-act, hour-long production (family-friendly), under the direction of our Lead Teacher/Director; students will have two dress rehearsals and give two performances in May (open to the public for small ticket fees). The production will mimic main-stage JTC shows with some staging conditions (e.g., immersive staging and universal lighting), an emphasis on classic text selections, and age-appropriate actor expectations. All students who sign up are guaranteed a role, but auditions will be held the first day of class to determine specific casting and give students audition experience. Classes will largely function like traditional rehearsals, with an emphasis upon preparing students not only for the show at hand, but also for future productions. Students will be expected to memorize lines, do all necessary character prep on their own between rehearsals, and help brainstorm and gather costumes and props, under teacher direction. (Students who are not ready to “take charge” of this solo work on their own should wait a year or two and take our intermediate class in the fall.) This semester’s production will be an adaptation of the legend of 'Robin Hood'! Arm yourself with a bow and arrow for a swashbuckling adventure in May! * Students must be at least 8 years old and no older than 13 on March 1, 2023. Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00 PM (NO class Apr 5, for Spring Break) Dress Rehearsals: Wednesday, May 10 (5:30-8:30 PM) and Thursday, May 11 (5:30-8:30 PM) Performances: Friday, May 12 (call time: 5:30 PM | performance: 7:00 PM) and Saturday, May 13 (call time: 5:30 PM | performance: 7:00 PM)
