The course will be identical to our Loudoun County-based class. Please sign up through CHESS's website (linked below)!

Course Description

Open to all experience levels. This course is geared toward students new to theater – including those who can’t wait to get on stage, those who just want to try it out, and those who want to expand their comfort zones. Students wishing to participate in future youth productions must take this course first, or demonstrate equivalent experience.

Youth Acting: Intro is JTC’s beginner class for ages 8 - 13. Students will be introduced to the basics of theater language, movement, voice, characterization, and teamwork on stage. The class will focus on unlocking theatrical imagination and equipping students with the foundational tools of the acting craft through games, exercises, and age-appropriate scene work. Emphasis will also be on helping students feel comfortable on stage, grow in confidence, and shed nervous habits in a non-threatening environment. Students will also be encouraged to participate in an end-of-semester showcase during the last class (November 13), open to friends and family.

Concepts covered include:

  • Stage Language

  • Movement: Body Awareness & Control

  • Voice: Delivery, Projection, & Diction

  • Characterization & Choices

  • Basics of Improvisation
