Course Description
The course will be a jumpstart for adult thespians wishing to fine-tune their skills – or see if acting or directing is for them. This class is geared toward adults of all experience levels. Students will be able to practice both acting and directing, exploring different techniques for each, using selections from classic texts. Our lead teacher, Christian Fernandez, is the founder of Jupiter Theater Company as well as an experienced actor and director. He holds a Master of Letters of Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin University. Students should expect scene studies and monologue work from classic texts, with an emphasis on awareness and choices in acting. Additionally, this class will provide coaching in the important strategies, philosophies, and vocabulary of directing, from initial vision to textual work to stage performance. Concepts covered include: tablework, stakes and motivations, scene beats, and dynamic staging. Students should expect take-home work and a highly interactive class with exercises, games, demonstrations, and scene work. Refund & Cancellation Policy
Tuition is due in full upon registration. Registrations may be cancelled with a full refund up until the start of the first rehearsal session (generally, the read-through). Registrations cancelled after the first rehearsal, but prior to the fifth rehearsal may receive a 50% refund. After the fifth rehearsal, tuition is non-refundable. If a student is dismissed due to violating JTC’s behavior policy, tuition will not be refunded.
