Course Description

Stage Combat Safety is the first in our three-part workshop series. This session is pre-requisite for taking the other sessions, as it is our safety training session, geared toward teaching students the five basics of fight safety. Students of all ages 13 and above are welcome. Stage Combat Safety will teach the basics of fight choreography safety: distance, range, timing, awareness, and zoning. These will be taught while discussing the fundamentals of stage combat: guards, telegraphing techniques, proper falls, proper rolls, and a few disarming techniques. This course is not so much a "fight class" so much as an introduction to how to do these things carefully. Students will perform some choreography with a partner (which could be a parent-child duo!), but there will be little actual fighting in this workshop session. The advanced courses will build on this base of knowledge to take students' fight choreography to the next level. In preparation for that, this session will teach students the fundamentals of safety, awareness, and the Three Perspectives of Fighting. * Students must be at least 13 years old on February 24, 2024.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Tuition is due in full upon registration. Registrations may be cancelled with a full refund up until the start of the first rehearsal session (generally, the read-through). Registrations cancelled after the first rehearsal, but prior to the fifth rehearsal may receive a 50% refund. After the fifth rehearsal, tuition is non-refundable. If a student is dismissed due to violating JTC’s behavior policy, tuition will not be refunded.
