Stage Combat Technique for Teens
Ages 13-18. Pre-requisite: Stage Combat Safety workshop session.
Course Description
Stage Combat Technique for Teens is the second in our three-part workshop series. All students must have taken the Stage Combat Safety in order to move on to this session. Students ages 13-18 are welcome. This session will focus on three skills for teens. The first is cueing: how to signal to your partner that you're about to simulate a hit. Students will learn to utilize timing, body language, and eye contact for this purpose. Next, students will go over the importance of perspective: orienting your body in such a way that the false attack looks realistic to the audience's point of view. The key is to control what the audience sees and doesn't see. Students will practice working with the audience's perspective to communicate the story safely. Lastly, this workshop will cover how to sell a hit. Students will learn how to receive and react to their partners' simulated attack in a way that looks realistic to the audience. The three above skills will be covered with a variety of combat types: - unarmed punch - shove - choke - dagger - sword - club **All weapons will be made of foam and/or plastic. All will be both dull and blunt. There will be no metal used at any point - only practice-safe weapons. * Students must be at least 13 years old on February 24, 2024.
